5 Disappointing Days Of FSU Football

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc. & Nolebra Kai recap the Noles 36-26 victory over Samford and give our late thoughts on FSU’s Labor Day loss to Virginia Tech. Defensive Coordinator Harlon Barnett said the most improvement happens between game 1 and game 2. If that’s the case, FSU fans better brace for a long, frustrating and disappointing season. Monday night the offense scored 3 points in 4 red zone opportunities. Saturday night, the defense allowed Samford to throw for 475 yards. Needless to say, it was a disappointing 5 days of Noles’ Football but at the same time, it’s way too early to make any declarations about Willie Taggart’s coaching ability or his future success at FSU.

5 Disappointing Days Of FSU Football

2018 Season Preview & Predictions

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai preview FSU’s 2018 season. On Saturday, the team celebrated the end of fall camp and as expected, on Monday Deondre Francois was named the Seminoles’ starting QB against Virginia Tech. Now that it’s official, we preview the Labor Day matchup against the Hokies. Balancing what we’ve seen from certain players with introducing a new offense and defense makes previewing the season tough but exciting. How much easier does the schedule get with the depth we have at running back and in the secondary? How much tougher does the schedule get with the lack of depth on the offensive line or inconsistent (at best) play from the linebackers? How many explosive plays can we expect from the passing game? Can this Willie Taggart led offense reverse the trend of being one of the more heavily penalized units? Doing our best to answer those questions ultimately leads us to giving our game by game and overall record predictions for the 2018 ...

2018 Training Camp – Week 2 Review

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap the 2nd week of FSU’s 2018 Training Camp. After 4 days of practice at IMG Academy, week 2 concluded with a situational scrimmage that saw the offense finally get the best of the defense. As the team prepares to turn their focus to Virginia Tech, there’s still no announcement on who will be the starting QB. Willie Taggart and Walt Bell both insist that the battle is still close and no one has done enough yet to seize the job.

2018 Training Camp – Week 1 Review

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc. & Nolebra Kai recap the first week of FSU’s 2018 Training Camp. The competition is far from over; but all indications are Deondre Francois had the best week of all the quarterbacks. Barring injury, it’s safe to assume that the starting offensive line against Virginia Tech will be: Jauan Williams, Derrick Kelly, Alec Eberle, Cole Minshew and Landon Dickerson.

Defense Continues To Dominate As Spring Game Approaches

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap the second scrimmage and give our overall impression of spring practice thus far. It should come as no surprise that the defense got the better of the offense in both scrimmages. The offense is undergoing a complete makeover in terms of philosophy, tempo, and complexity while elements of Harlon Barnett’s cover 4 defense were present under Charles Kelly. Not to mention, the majority of injuries to key players are on the offensive side of the ball. Spring practice concludes with the Garnet & Gold game on Saturday and the teams have now been drafted. We discuss the rosters and our expectations for the Spring Game.

2018 Spring Practice Preview

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc. & Nolebra Kai preview FSU’s 2018 spring practice. We’ve seen signs that the culture surrounding the football program is changing. We’ve seen signs that the players are starting to have fun again. Now it’s time to see how well the players adjust to a new offensive and defensive scheme. Spring practice begins on Wednesday and right now there are more questions than answers. Who has the upper hand at QB? How will the running back rotation shake out? Who will be the starters on the OLine? Is Tre McKitty ready to be the man at TE? Who steps up at DE behind Burns and Kaindoh? What is a reasonable expectation for the linebacker unit? Who starts in the secondary?

The Chase Ends; The Journey Is Set To Begin

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai discuss "The Chase" and the ongoing efforts to change the culture surrounding the program. Whether you wanted Jimbo Fisher to stay or you're happy that he left, the one thing that is not debatable is the culture within the program was broken. The first signs of this can be traced back to the 2014 season and the issues continued to mount until the day he finally resigned. For Willie Taggart, in order to change the on-field results this season, he must first change the sense of entitlement and lack of accountability that ruined what was a championship culture just 4 short years ago. That change officially began with Willie Taggart's offseason conditioning program called "The Chase". It was the first chance for the players to get on the field and work with their new coaches. Now that it's concluded, the one major takeaway from The Chase is that they players once again realize that it's ok to work hard AND have fun.

The ACC released the 2018 schedule and at first glance the play on the field should improve but the record may not drastically improve in Willie Taggart's first year. The season begins against Virginia Tech on Labor Day, ends with a 5 game stretch that includes Clemson, Notre Dame and Florida. Midseason FSU plays back to back road games against Louisville and Miami.

Too Many Black Coaches?

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai discuss the new coaching hires and the composition of the staff. Going into the offseason, FSU fans felt like the 2 most important hires Willie Taggart had to make were the Defensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach. With the hiring of Harlon Barnett and Greg Frey, Taggart has made 2 solid hires despite a lack of name recognition. As expected, the ethnic makeup of this staff is an issue with some FSU fans. We discuss the impact this could have on recruiting and booster support.
