Introducing 'Room 20'

Chapter 6: Episode 3 (Brittany Phillips)

This is the final episode of a three-part series, so if you haven’t listened to the first two of this chapter, go back and do so first for the basics of the case before listening to this last episode. In episodes 1 and 2 of this chapter, you heard from Brittany’s mother, Dr. Margaret Zingman aka Maggie as well as Brittany’s brother, Josh Phillips. You learned a bit more about who Brittany was as a person, as much as possible, that is. In episode 3, we will delve into the different persons of interest of whom the police cleared as well as circumstances surrounding the case, and theories. Additionally, we will discuss CODIS, genetic genealogy, and how Parabon Snapshots are helping solve cases today. There is a Parabon Snapshot of the suspect in Brittany’s case - so we will discuss this as well. If you have any information about Brittany’s case, please contact the Tulsa Homicide Hotline 918-798-8477.Find out where Maggie is headed to next by visiting http://www.brittanyphillipsmur...

Chapter 6: Episode 2 (Brittany Phillips)

This is Episode 2 of a three-part series, so if you haven’t listened to Episode 1 of this chapter, go back and do so first for the basics of the case before listening to this interview episode. In the first episode of this chapter, you heard from Brittany’s mother, Dr. Margaret Zingman. We were also able to speak with Josh Phillips, Brittany’s brother, about her life and legacy. You will hear from him as well as Maggie in this episode. Additionally, we touch base on the fact that the police do have DNA evidence from the scene; which definitely gives us reason enough to remain optimistic that an arrest and conviction is still possible in Brittany’s case. Dossier 4: The Disappearance of Jade Humble

This month’s case is the disappearance of a young woman in suburban Cincinnati who disappeared when she was 21 years-old. Typically, a case like this can receive widespread local, state, and even national news coverage. But the Jade Humble disappearance wasn’t covered at all. Partly because nobody knew she was missing for a period of time, but also the type of victim she was, meaning: parts of her life which are less appealing and that the public see as high risk. In this dossier, we explore the world of heroin addiction whilst discussing the key stages of reporting a missing person in Ohio and the possibility that human trafficking could be a factor in Jade's case. Special thanks to Brooke (Jade's childhood friend) for speaking with us about the person Jade was.Special thanks to Jessica (Intensive Care Probation Officer & former Forensics Case Manager in Cincinnati) for speaking with us about drug addiction and human trafficking. Dossier 3: The Shooting Death of Bernita White

Prior to June, 2001, a newsworthy event at Potter Park outside of Lansing, Michigan would be music being played too loud from a car stereo. Occasionally, police would be called on a report of kids drinking alcohol in the parking lot after dark. That changed in the middle of a perfect summer afternoon, when a shot rang out, and a 41-year-old mother of two fell to the ground. The shot had come from a high-powered rifle, and the sniper hadn’t been seen by any witnesses. Bernita White had been walking into the park’s zoo with her 5-year-old daughter. For nearly 18 years, Bernita’s shooting death has gone unsolved. Although police have interviewed more than 500 people, no arrests have ever been made… leaving those closest to Bernita White wonder who could have wanted her dead, and why. Thank you Chris Christoff for your time and assistance on this Dossier! Are you going to the first annual True Crime Podcast Festival in July 2019 in Chicago? You should! Dossier 1 Update: David Josiah Lawson (w/Jessa)

Our first Dossier episode covered the 2017 homicide of David Josiah Lawson outside a college party in Arcata, California. David Josiah Lawson was studying Criminology at Humboldt State University when he was killed. Lawson was the president of the Brothers United, a group that formed as a result of the unsolved murder of another black student at the college. A grand jury convened on the last day of February to decide if charges could be warranted in his death. This week, it’s been reported that grand jury declined to indict the man who police and prosecutors believe is responsible. To break this all down we’re joined by Jessa Nicholson-Goetz, who is a criminal defense attorney based in Madison, Wisconsin. She’s a founding partner in her law firm and half of the Getting Off podcast, which is highly recommended and religiously listened-to by both Heather and myself. Jessa and her law partner and podcast co-host appeared on the original DJ Lawson Dossier episode.Follow Getting Off Po...
