About Us

Hosted by New York City-based comedians Carolyn Bergier and Sarah York, Dyking Out is a podcast about lesbian / queer life, news, and pop culture as told by a couple of dykes. Each week, Carolyn and Sarah invite a special guest (comedians, musicians, academics, scorned ex-lovers) to dyke out with them about a topic that's relevant to the LGBTQ world. But really, it's just another way to advance the gay agenda.

Member Benefits

No matter how you identify, you can dyke out with us each week to laugh along with a couple of lesbians and a special guest as we talk about different topics occupying the gay agenda. Are you a Susan (the gender-agnostic name for our listeners) who's looking for more ways to dyke out? Become a member, and you'll get access to our Dyking Off Topic episodes, along with extra interactions and posts from us hosts.

Relationship Roles w/ Whitney Chanel Clark - Ep. 107

EComedian Whitney Chanel Clark (Broadway Comedy Club) has a bone to pick about assumed roles in relationships. Like why are more masc-presenting women expected to pay on dates or service selfish pillow princesses? What are the double standards that take place in same-sex relationships, and what can we do to defy stereotypes? We explore all of this and more (strap-ons, domestic abuse, cheating) in this extra candid episode. But first, we try to figure out how to stop the heteros from their destructive and lethal gender reveal parties. Finally, we end with a messy listener question about an inappropriate manager. -Dyke Out with us at Stonewall for the last time in 2019 on November 25. –Get tickets to Dyke The Halls: A Dyking Out Holigay Spectacular at Joe’s Pub, December 16! -Get extra episodes by joining outPatreon community of becoming a member on Himalaya. -For related content, follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Leave Us a Reviewif you like what you hear! -Like our the...

Androgyny w/ Irene Tu - Ep. 106

EWe’re blurring the lines of gender expressing and talking all about androgyny with comedian Irene Tu! Named one of the best up-and-coming comedians by Vulture, Irene tells us about her path to her current aesthetic and habit of shopping in the mens section. Plus, we go off on pockets for the second time because we can’t shout enough about how badly we need properly sized pockets to put our lezsentials in (okay, maybe chapstick fits in small spaces, but you get what we mean). We also talk about our latest Stonewall show and both the amazing and not-so-amazing audience etiquette. Then we cover representative Kate Hill’s resignation and the 2020 primary field. Finally, we end with a listener question about significant others and military ambitions! -Like our theme song? Cheating w/ Caitlin Reese - Ep. 105

ETRIGGER WARNING (see topic for reference). Comedian Caitlin Reese came by to talk about one of the unfortunate realities of being in relationships: cheating! Unfortunately, most of us have experience with this act, whether we were the perp, victim, or the side piece. Or perhaps you have people in your life whose cheating has affected you even though you aren’t romantically involved. We talk all about physical and emotional cheating, why we do it, and how to cope with the aftermath. There was so much to cover here and impossible to tackle it all. Before we re-opened all our relationship wounds, we talked about Halloween and a real-life monster that past guest Amber Rollo unexpectedly encountered and confronted. And as always, we end on a listener question about mental health in relationships. –Get tickets to Dyke The Halls: A Dyking Out Holigay Spectacular at Joe’s Pub, December 16! -Get extra episodes by joining outPatreon community. -For related content, follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Leave Us a Reviewif you like what you hear! -Like our theme song? Bad Lesbian Movies w/ Kendall Payne - Ep. 104

EPop some popcorn and get ready to binge on things that make us cringe! Comedian and director Kendall Payne (Netflix Is A Joke) dykes out with us about the bad lesbian movies we love to watch, or not watch in Sarah’s case. Whether it’s problematic couplings, overdone tropes, cheesy dialogue, or un-relatable narratives created by the heteros, there are a lot of movies geared toward queer women that miss the mark. Also, we reveal the name we’ll be using to refer to our amazing listeners. And we also come up with a list of things that are inherently queer, starting with murder and ending with Canada. What else made the list? You’ll have to listen to find out! Plus, we answer a listener question about her not-too-alpha girlfriend. -Grab your costume and Dyke Out with us at The Stonewall Inn on October 28! -Get extra episodes by joining outPatreon community. -For related content, follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Leave Us a Reviewif you like what you hear! -Like our theme song? Weed w/ John-Allison "A.W." Weiss - Ep. 103

EWe had a chill time this week with singer-songwriter John-Allison Weiss (who performs as A.W.) talking about a popular herb that we obtained legally and are old enough to smoke/ingest. Eventually the topic kicks in, but we take our time getting there to catch up on Ellen and Madonna. We also shout out a past guest who was in the movie Hustlers, and learn about Sarah’s foray into somewhat relevant queer content. Once the smoke clears, we tackle the topic and share our earliest experiences with marijuana. What’s our relationship with it? Does it play a role in the creative process? What are the draw backs? And please remember A.W.’s wise advise to be responsible and wait until your brain finishes developing. Finally, we roll it all up with our listener question about how to deal with her loneliness. Navigating Gender w/ Annick Adelle - Ep. 102

EGerman-born and L.A.-based comedian Annick Adelle joined us to dyke out about Navigating Gender. Annick is exploring the gender spectrum and starting to make decisions about to which extent to transition. We talk about the spectrum of gender and how different everyone’s experience with it is, as well as how that can change over time (or not!). How does dysphoria affect identity and our perceptions of gender? What are some of the things people consider when trying to affirm their appearance with how they feel? Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper Dyking Out episode without a few detours into topics like Judy Garland, Tegan & Sara, the resistance, and motorcycles. Plus, we answer a listener question about confiding in the subject of a past fling. -Get extra episodes by joining outPatreon community. -For related content, follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Leave Us a Reviewif you like what you hear! -Like our theme song? Top Surgery w/ Shannon Noll - Ep. 101

EChicago comedian Shannon Noll came by to dyke out about their recent top operation, giving us all the nipple-hardening details (actually, no nipples required!). We talk about what made them want to get it in the first place, the procedure itself, and financial challenges. We also talk about how different their life is now, and how others reacted to it (even though it’s none of their business). This was our first time recording in 20 days, so before we talk about tops, we start at the bottom by chewing out the women who defend terrible men in comedy. Carolyn also issues a couple of important corrections and updates from previous episodes, and we answer a very tricky listener question about being in a relationship with opposing political beliefs. We had such a great time with Shannon. Be sure to check out their series, Just Call Me Ripley. -Get extra episodes by joining outPatreon community. -For related content, follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Leave Us a Reviewif you ...

Moms w/ Margaret Cho - Ep. 100

EPraise be to the Goddess, we’ve made it to episode ONE FREAKING HUNDRED. And to celebrate, we have none other than bisexual dykon (#bivisibilityday) and comedian Margaret Cho in a discussion about Moms and SO much more. Yes, Sarah and Carolyn ended their L.A. trip by dyking out with one of the most influential comedians of our time. Before we get into the topic, we talk about gatekeepers in comedy (the usual suspects) and the past instinct of wanting to blend in to be accepted as a serious comic. Plus, we chat about her time navigating conservative populations while living in Peachtree City, Georgia. The topic of Moms seemed perfect for this episode since Margaret’s own mother makes it into so much of her comedy, Sara’s mom is our biggest fan, and Carolyn’s mom has an artful nude of Patti. We talk about Margaret’s mom’s reaction to her bisexuality, first same-sex partner, and abortions. We end by giving advice to a listener who isn’t quite sure how to come out to her father who, duh, prefers conversations about the weather. Be sure to check out Margaret’s new podcast, The Margaret Cho! A huge thanks to all of our listeners. We love you and are so thankful for the time you spend with us each week.
