In the first episode of the season, we chat with Lucia Bakulumpagi- Wamala the founder and CEO Of Bakulu Power
In a traditional and male-centric industry, Lucia Bakulumpagi-Wamala’s focus is on developing and implementing collaborative renewable energy projects that engage communities, empower women, and contribute to environmental sustainability. As the CEO and Founder of Bakulu Power, a renewable energy company based in Uganda, Lucia’s goal is to power our tomorrow with projects and initiatives that foster social, environmental, and economic development in her native country and throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. Lucia’s advocacy of impactful energy solutions and work on behalf of Bakulu Power has seen her represent the company at high-level events worldwide such as the United Nations GeneralAssembly, African Union Summit, and World Trade Organization’s Public Forum. Lucia has also served as the keynote speaker at the 2018 Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue and has lectured at the Yale School of Management. She has been interviewed by BBC, CNBC Africa, Le Point, AlJezeera, Design Indaba, CBC and Africa News, and has been profiled in Brussels Airlines’ “b-inspired” and Forbes Afrique, Forbes Magazine as one of the 30 Most Promising Young Entrepreneurs in Africa (2017) and Institute Choiseul as one of the 100 African Economic Leaders for Tomorrow. Lucia holds a BSocSc in Public Administration with a Specialization in Community Intervention from the University of Ottawa and is also a graduate of the UK Prince of Wales Business Sustainability Programme from Cambridge University.
