The Bosses Are The Virus (Ft. Grace Reckers & Connor Lewis)

As the contradictory structures of capitalism continue to collapse, one countervailing structure, in particular, gaining a lot of energy: the labor union. There's some speculation that all of the misery caused being heaped on workers--from job insecurity to the lack of paid sick time to the unwillingness to provide personal protective equipment--could lead to a new wave of organizing. We spoke with two union organizers about what their analysis of the current moment and what it means for workers, organizers, and beyond. Connor Lewis, based in Pennsylvania, is an organizer that works with educators. He also is a founding member of the Strikewave collective and a co-host of the forthcoming podcast Union Thots. Check out Strikewave here: https://www.thestrikewave.com/ Check out Union Thots Podcast here: https://www.unionthots.com/ Grace Reckers is an organizer with New York's OPEIU Local 153. The union she told us about during this episode is currently bargaining at with management at Municipal Credit Union. Since recording, their collective power has won them some hazard pay! For more information about workers at Municipal Credit Union and the broader organizing efforts in New York, follow OPEIU 153 on Twitter: https://twitter.com/153Local. April Ghouls (Ft. Seth Duckbody & Clint Beastwood)

Hey there patriots, we're back on the grind this week with all the news and ideological bullshit that you need to navigate the encroaching socialist hell hole. Things are going great right now--don't let the Marxist media fool you. This week we're talking about unions (and how they're a vehicle for COMMUNISM), 3d printed medical equipment (and how they're a devious plot of COMMUNISM), socialized medicine (COMMUNISM), and the new ways that the state is dolling out bootstrap entrepreneurial opportunities to the homeless and even convicted felons. There's your silver lining, patriots. Stay safe out there! ALSO NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. (Except communism.) Death Cult Capitalism

IT'S LIKE THE TROLLEY PROBLEM. On one track, up to 2 million meemaws and peepops have been tied down on one side of the track and the NASDAQ is tied to the other. There is now a debate among (unfortunately) the most powerful people track the runaway choo choo of modern capitalism will savage. We're at a crucial juncture (not in a train track, but in history) where mass mobilization, resistance, and refusal can have tremendous impacts on the system. Or we could have fascism... Fingers crossed! Death Cult Capitalism

Chandler in The High Castle

The timeline, it is dark. The Republicans under the Trump administration are literally abandoning capitalism--at least temporarily--while the Democrats are wringing their hands about means-testing. Meanwhile, the Trump administration's failure to take the Coronavirus seriously has resulted in an economic crisis that may perhaps blossom into an event on par with the Great Depression. The pandemic and the domino effect of consequences, however, is revealing a wide array of contradictions in our current capitalist system. Who knew that the government could just say "hey no more evictions"? Shit, did Obama know that back in 2009? What happens when racists like Trump embrace economic populism? It's unclear. We're social distancing right now, but also, we are deep in the wilderness. Stay stafe. By the way, we were talking and we want to touch base with you about what you want from Future Left right now. On the one hand, the Coronavirus crisis is immense, and it would be silly to just pret...

Polemics & Pandemics

In the wake of some shitty primary results, we talk through the problems of electoral politics. Under current material conditions, is electoral organizing a red herring for more valuable working-class organizing? While Bernie ain't out yet, his difficult path ahead begs the questions: ought we vote for Joe Biden? How do we kill the Democratic Party? Also, there's a damn plague on the loose, so... wash those hands! We talk about the Coronavirus in the second half of the show and all the ways it shows that the better world we're fighting for is 1) 100% possible and 2) a good way to fight pandemics! The Empire Strikes Back (Ft. Benjamin Dixon)

Oof. Super Tuesday, unfortunately, did not go our way. Bernie Sanders--now the remaining progressive candidate in the Democrats' 2020 contest--is slightly down, but decidedly not out. We're looking at the Democratic field to figure out what went wrong, and why writing obituaries for 2020's left prospects is premature. Who better join us for such a conversation, than Benjamin Dixon. Host of the Benjamin Dixon show, Ben recently gave the billionaire class a headache when he unearthed audio of Michael Bloomberg being racist as hell, starting down the path of a half-a-billion dollar embarrassment that was his campaign. You should definitely check out Ben's excellent show for more analysis. Texas Reds (Ft. Kristian Hernandez, Ashkan Jahangiri, & Bo Schuh)

We've got great big Texas-sized episode this week, featuring a dream team of Texas leftists. We've got Kristian Hernandez, who often organizes with DSA North Texas and currently serves on DSA's National Political Committee, Ashkan Jahangiri, organizing with Austin DSA, and Bo Schuh, one of the cohosts of Psychic Dolphin Garage. We're talking about how the big man, Bernie Sanders, is on his way to winning the state of Texas in the upcoming Democratic Primary on Super Tuesday. Bearing in mind we recorded this on the Wednesday before (aka "Just Okay Tuesday"), so we don't *know* if Bernie's gonna win. But also we know that Bernie's gonna win because Texas is changing and the working people therein ain't taking no shit anymore. What do non-Texans get wrong about this big ol' state? What are the biggest issues that the working class is facing there? And how are organizers spreading the gospel of social and economic transformation? All that and more this week on Future Left! NOTE: On Mond...

Mike & Don's Bourgeois Journey

Having trouble at work? Need higher pay? Is your supervisor Greg, literally, sniffing you when you come to work? Of all the solutions in the world, isn't your first instinct to Ask A Boss? Well, no, of course, it isn't. That would be a terrible idea, and you'd probably get bad advice. But anyway that's the premise of a New York magazine advice column. We're also talking about Jeff Bezos and his ever-expanding empire of fuckery and the spectre looming over us all, and I don't mean communism (not yet anyway). I'm talking about Mike Bloomberg and his spending spree for the US presidency. The billionaires are shook by the thought of a social democrat in the White House, which is equal parts sad and frightening. Jeff & MIke are both attempting big PR campaigns for capitalism and capitalists. A nice bright spot this week though: Some tenants in Oakland, California have gone on rent strike. Only they're not making demands for repairs, they're demanding the landlord give them the fucking ho...
