The BradCast w/ Brad Friedman
On today's 'BradCast': A second test for the Governor of Ohio Mike DeWine appears to show he is negative for the coronavirus, despite an earlier positive result. In Tennessee, if the computer-tallied results of the Democratic Primary for U.S. Senate there can be believed, Marquita Bradshaw, a progressive African-American environmental activist has won the party's nomination, despite being outspent 250 to 1. GOP dirty tricks are already underway in advance of the 2020 election, with new reports of North Carolina voters receiving hoax robocalls relaying false information about voting by mail. Dirty tricks are shamefully coming from inside the White House itself, as Pres. Trump continues to make false claims about absentee voting (after fraudulently doing so himself!). Trump's new Postmaster General, Republican Trump mega-donor Louis DeJoy, with no previous USPS experience, is undermining the U.S. Postal Service itself with new directives resulting in the slowdown of mail delivery in advance of what will be, by far, the largest Vote-by-Mail election in the nation's history. MARK DIMONDSTEIN, President of the American Postal Workers Union, explains what is happening on the ground, the slowdowns caused by the new directives, the safety (and necessity) of Vote-by-Mail, and the history and context of why the USPS, a lifeline for Americans during the coronavirus pandemic, is in crisis mode. He also explains the decades-long effort to privatize the USPS (which is funded entirely by postage revenue, not taxpayers), so that private corporations can profit from the massive customer base served by the Postal Service that delivers to all Americans equally, every day, at all 160 million addresses across the country. Plus: a bit of inspiration from musical satirist Roy Zimmerman.
